When Jacki Arena, Principal of Jacki Arena Interiors, approached designing the new Cambria Hotel in Madeira Beach, Fl., she envisioned how it could tell a story by weaving the surrounding area into a guest’s experience.
A unique local history that includes a pirate, lost treasure, and sea turtles.
Historical research into Madeira Beach led the design team on a treasure hunt, introducing them to the legend of John LeVeque, a pirate and one of the first western settlers of the area. Upon arriving in the Madeira Beach area, LeVeque buried his treasure on the beach, retired from his pirating ways, and became a turtle farmer.
Throughout the hotel’s design, turtles, gold coins, jewels, compasses, and maps are hidden throughout in artwork and even in the pool’s tiles – encouraging guests to enjoy a treasure hunt of their own!
In addition to paying homage to the area’s history, the carpets, rugs, and seating reflect the relaxation of Gulf breezes, the tranquility of white sand beaches, and the beauty of evening sunsets.
According to Jacki, her favorite lighting is featured in the dining areas highlighting an open, contemporary, and comfortable layout for guests to enjoy. For these spaces, she selected fixtures from Hinkley’s Hampton and Fulton Collections.
