Hinkley Lighting CEO Rick Wiedemer passed away Saturday, August 3, after sustaining a traumatic head injury from a serious fall on June 17 in Cleveland. He passed peacefully, surrounded by his family. “We are heartbroken to lose our father,” said Jess Wiedemer, President of Hinkley Lighting. “He’s our hero and our inspiration and the best businessperson we have ever known. And he was a better father and grandfather. To say we will miss him cannot adequately capture what we are all feeling. But we know he is at peace now.”

Rick began his career in 1969 after graduating from Ohio University with a bachelor’s degree in business. Starting in the factory and working his way through each manufacturing and office department, Rick developed a deep passion for sales, marketing and product development. As CEO, Rick headed the 3rd generation of his family running the company, and under his leadership, Hinkley has become one of the finest lighting companies in the world. Rick was proud to call Cleveland home, where Hinkley Lighting opened its doors nearly 100 years ago.

Rick's passion, devotion, and love for Hinkley and the lighting industry was unmatched. All three of Rick's children, Kristi, Jess and Eric, have played key roles at Hinkley Lighting. With more than 15 years of experience, Jess assumed the role of President in January 2015. After a successful law career, Eric now serves as Vice President and General Counsel. Having the third and fourth generation work together created a true family culture at Hinkley – one of Rick's most valued accomplishments. To say we will miss him cannot adequately capture what we’re all feeling.

“July marked dad’s 50th year with Hinkley Lighting. My brother, Jess, and I are committed to fulfilling his vision for the company and leading its success in the future. We know he would not want it any other way,” said Eric Wiedemer, Vice President and General Counsel of Hinkley.

Throughout the years, Rick achieved many awards and accolades, and he will be inducted into the American Lighting Association Hall of Fame in September. He would tell you, of course, that all his accomplishments were achieved with the support, advice and friendship he received throughout his career. And he would thank you.

Rick was driven to better serve you. He taught us that – and we’re dedicated to honoring him by continuing to deliver the service and quality that you’ve come to expect from Hinkley Lighting. We know that Rick would not want it any other way.

WE THANK YOU
FOR YOUR VISION. FOR YOUR PASSION. FOR YOUR LEADERSHIP.
