Product Engineer - Electrical

Summary: The Product Engineer (Electrical) will primarily be responsible for providing engineering support for new products in
accordance with established product development timeframes. This role provides expertise and guidance to ensure
Hinkley product meets our Company’s design, quality, and manufacturing standards and related industry standards and
regulations. Also leads the technical support function for Hinkley’s IoT / Smart Technology. Works cross-functionally with
stakeholders from engineering, product development, quality, customer care, and other departments to meet Company
standards for product development and other related product and quality goals.

Primary Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Provides technical product and application expertise on all Hinkley product lines.
  •  Support regulatory data filing for DOE and CEC (ceiling fans and light fixtures).
  •  Manage Hinkley App IoT Portal(s) including troubleshooting, documentation, providing product-related support
    and guidance to internal and external customers as well as identifying feature modifications and enhancements
    for an improved user experience.
  • Explore new Smart IoT Technology and determine / recommend how best to apply to current and future Hinkley
    Products.
  •  Provides technical support to the Customer Care team including training, technical bulletins, LED component
    workflow responses, product-related responses, and more.
  • Enters product performance data in PLM (WFX) and reviews to ensure accuracy.
  •  Review and respond to escalated technical product-related inquiries from consumers, contractors, sales reps,
    Hinkley channel partners and more.
  •  Reviews new and/or modified product drawings. Provides engineering input to the product development team.
  •  Creates product specification sheets.
  • Conducts product testing including but not limited to: mechanical testing, thermal rain testing, general coverage
    (prepares reports, audits checklists).
  • Maintains Company product engineering standards and ensures compliance to standards.
  •  Prepares CAD models of existing products as needed.
  • May assist in the setup of product including samples and models. Some travel involved when setting up products
    at off-site showroom.
  • Determines repair/replacement parts for Bills of Materials (BOM’s).
  • Supports product quality efforts with material, manufacturing process and design knowledge.
  • May assist in populating and/or reviewing product data (engineering reviews specs, comments, material
    proofing).
  •  Reviews and approves Pre-Production Survey (PPS) reports.
  • May coordinates special commercial builds. Quotes BOM and labor costs for custom products.
  • Prepare ETL project summaries.
  • Manages the outsourcing of Photometry / IES (Illumination Engineering Society).
  •  May participate in new product engineering trips to meet with overseas suppliers

Education and Work Experience Required

  •  Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college. Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Engineering Technology
    or other technology or electrical related field preferred.
  • Associate degree with additional related work experience may be considered.
  •  3+ years’ experience with lighting, electrical or other technical product required.
  • 2+ years’ experience in the Consumer Goods industry required.
  • Prior technical experience in product applications
  •  Prior experience with Smart IoT consumer home products preferred.

Necessary Specialized Training, Knowledge, Skill and Abilities

  •  Strong computer skills including SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Adobe Illustrator, and Office 365.
  • Ability to conceive countermeasure plans for technical challenges.
  • Great knowledge of product/feature, product details/operation, strategic application and positioning.
  • Ability to translate technical research results into consumable content for internal and external audiences.
  • Strong problem-solver with a passion for training and customer support.
  • Self-motivated and curious, you take initiative and own your deliverables.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects within a fast-paced work environment.
  • Must be detail oriented and meticulous.
  • Works well with others, a team player. Ability to work collaboratively with a cross-functional team.
  • Integrity, sense of responsibility, and independent judgment.
  • Able to communicate professionally and can effectively interact with all levels of the organization, including with
    global partners (frequent emails to Asian vendors).
  • Ability to work with and maintain confidential information.

  • Travel up to 10%.
